The Huuel Come To Life

Took a very brief drawing break today to work on the Huuel headdress design.  I decided to work on someone of mid-rank in their society, so drew Marrow-Runs-Black, who will have a brief appearance in "Huntlead".  This took all of about 20 minutes so it is definitely no example of my "good" work, but it worked for my purposes.

Ende and Stick At It Again

Though I'm not going to really have time to write for the next ten days or so, the next part of Felriver is trundling around in my head.  "Huntlead" is going to get a lead-in of the same vein as the introduction to the book; Ende will introduce the Huuel, their history and traditions, and Stick will then illuminate the readers on "the basics".  So far the feedback on the interaction between those two has been great, so I'm going to fly with it, not to mention that it relieves me of having to explain all the little details about Huuel society in the middle of the story.

Snowing again today, and we're also supposed to have record-breaking cold, so the roads will freeze solid tonight.  Real bummer because I wanted to take the kiddo out for dinner, and now it will have to wait.  I've got a serious case of cabin fever and could really use a day out . . . Disney World is sounding really good about now . . . *sigh*

Busy busy month!

I know, I haven't been updating this as much as I would have liked but it has been a crazy few weeks.  Not only has it been the end of the semester, but I have written a grand total of 50,000+ (!!!) words for a novella and a short story contest run by Clean Teen Publishing and miraculously I got it done not only by the deadline, but in less than 20 days. NaNoWriMo, eat my shorts!

There's not much time left, but check them out and maybe enter a story or five!  And if you click that handy dandy button right there, you can even help them out on Kickstarter!

And of course, there was the tragedy in Boston . . . that hit very close to home because my little sister was only a quarter mile away from the blasts when they occurred.  I don't think anyone will blame me for not wanting to go into a bunch of detail about the ups and downs I've been feeling all week.

Semester is over in just about a week and a half, so after that, "Huntlead" it is!  The Huuel have been nipping at my heels to get their tail - I mean, tale out there.

While working out "Huntlead" in my head, I'm taking a bit of a break to enter a writing contest hosted by CleanTeen Publishing, a new book publisher aimed toward the young adult crowd.  I'm aiming for the novelette or novella entry, with each winner getting a place in their first anthology, a prize in the form of an Amazon gift certificate (hey, anything that helps me buy my textbooks is good) and a chance at a publishing contract.  Now THAT would be interesting.

So right now I am working on "Heartkeeper" for the contest, which closes at the end of the month.  We'll have to see what happens!

I'm also now on WritersCafe, and you can find me here: http://www.writerscafe.org/Rindle
